Why this exists
Search “how much does a store buildout cost” and you’ll get a hundred pages that answer with “it depends on your needs — contact us for a quote.” Search “how much weight can slatwall hold” and you’ll get manufacturer marketing that quotes a number without saying at what spacing, in what substrate, with what bracket.
The information exists. It sits with GCs, store planners, fixture installers and the retailers who’ve been through it three times. It just isn’t written down anywhere a first-time retailer can find it.
Store Floor writes it down.
What we publish
- Buyer’s guides that compare real options and name the tradeoffs, including the ones that make the more expensive option the wrong choice
- Specification content — load ratings, code requirements, dimensions, tolerances — sourced to the standard or measured in person
- Cost data from real projects, published as ranges with the assumptions attached
- Case studies with the budget overruns and the mistakes still in them, because the version without those isn’t useful to anyone
What we don’t publish
- Sponsored articles dressed as editorial
- Vendor press releases
- “Top 10 suppliers” lists ranked by who paid
- Anything we haven’t checked
Who writes it
Store Floor is produced by an editorial team with backgrounds in retail operations, fixture procurement, and store construction. Pieces are reviewed for specs, ranges, and sourcing before they publish. We intentionally keep a collective editorial byline for now — the accountability is on the publication’s standards, not a personal brand.
